How much should you pay? Setting a maximum purchase price on Vinted
Good deals go fast, and the mistakes usually happen at the moment you pay. The fix: know your maximum price before you even start looking. Here is how to work it out.
Why start from the resale price
The usual reflex is to look at a price and ask “is this a good deal?”. That is hard to answer in a few seconds, especially when the listing has just gone up and others are looking at it too.
The opposite question is much easier: “what is the most I am willing to pay for this item?”. If you know the answer in advance, the decision is instant: below it, you buy; above it, you move on.
Estimate the resale price
Everything starts here. To estimate it honestly:
- Look at comparable listings: same brand, model, size and condition.
- Trust what sells, not the most optimistic prices that stay online for weeks.
- Keep a cautious price, one you are sure to reach without waiting too long.
Choose your target
There are two ways to set what you want to earn:
- A margin target, as a share of the resale price. It scales with the price, so it suits cheap and expensive items alike.
- A profit target, in euros. It makes sure every flip is worth the time it takes, which matters on cheap items.
Many resellers combine both: a target margin, and a minimum profit below which they do not bother.
The formula
The maximum price is what is left of the resale price once everything else is paid, including your target margin. Because the Vinted fee grows with the item price (5% more, plus €0.70), you divide by 1.05 at the end:
| Step | Calculation |
|---|---|
| Target profit | target margin × resale price |
| Room left | resale − shipping − other costs − target profit − €0.70 |
| Maximum price | room left ÷ 1.05 |
With a €45 resale, €3.89 shipping and a 40% target margin: the target profit is €18, the room left is €22.41, and the maximum price is €21.34. At that price the Vinted fee is €1.77, the total cost €27, and the profit exactly €18.
A reference table
With €3.89 shipping and no other costs, here is the most to pay by resale price and target margin:
| Resale price | 30% margin | 40% margin | 50% margin |
|---|---|---|---|
| €30 | €15.62 | €12.77 | €9.91 |
| €45 | €25.62 | €21.34 | €17.05 |
| €60 | €35.62 | €29.91 | €24.20 |
The effect of fixed costs shows quickly: on an item that resells for €30, a 50% margin means buying it for under €10.

Put your maximum to work
A maximum price only helps if you apply it every time:
- In your searches: use Vinted’s price filter to only see listings below your maximum.
- In your offers: offer at your maximum, never above. A seller who says no is not a missed deal, it is a bad deal avoided.
- In bundles: grouping several items from one seller shares the shipping and the fixed part of the fee (normally), which raises your maximum per item.
- In your Vinds filters: the maximum price of a Vinds filter does exactly this job. You only see listings that leave the margin you chose, and only get alerts for them.
